Using Baseball Role Models for Motivation.

What should I do if my player lacks motivation?

I get that question a lot…here is my response.

Have you ever felt a connection or an affinity with a baseball player you looked up to?

Maybe you found out that both of you are from the same home-town, share the same favorite flavor of ice-cream, or both played little league at the same park.

Studies have shown that when an individual has made a perceived connection with someone who is doing something that they’d like to do as well, it increases their level of motivation and work ethic by 62 %.

There is a reason why pioneers and trailblazers are so valuable to society. They provide us with proof that seemingly impossible things can be done and more importantly, give us permission to allow our “strongest selves” to shine through.

There is something to be said to having baseball role models that serve as sign posts for what can be accomplished.

They are the reference points for our goals and as we shoot for the moon, we may miss but we will land among the stars.

Okay, okay…I know I’m starting to sound a bit hokey but here’s the truth.

If you aim for the mud, you’ll probably land in it.

Avoid selling yourself short by modeling after those that you admire and have accomplished great things as ball players.

It’s way more valuable than what you’ve been taught. Pick one player and run with it.

You can learn more about it in this video.

What are your thoughts?

Become a Switch-Hitter By Growing Your Myelin Sheath.

I didn’t learn how to become a true switch-hitter until I was around 22 years old but when I did it was a huge skill-set for me and served as a major advantage.

All breaking ball pitches were breaking towards me and I was able to pick up the ball out of the pitcher’s hand more effectively because the pitcher was always throwing from the opposite side of the mound.

A lot of people share the misconception that if you don’t start switch hitting early it will be too late to start later in your career. That’s absolutely false. I’m a testament to that.

In this Art of Baseball QnA video, I’ll be sharing with you a unique idea that relates closely with the overall developing process of being able to hit from both sides of the plate. The idea or process of a lack of better words is the “Myelin Sheath”.

The Myelin Sheath is the insulator of your neural pathways that are responsible with the process of building and developing new skills and knowledge. This is very important because as the Myelin Sheath grows, we learn things quicker and the entire process compounds on itself.

The most interesting thing about this entire topic is that only up until recently, scientists have discovered that Myelin responds in direct proportion to the amount of electrical activity that it experiences, IE practice.

In this video I’ll discuss how it works and what things you can do specifically to grow your Myelin Sheath to start hitting better from your non dominant side in no time.

Enjoy the video!

The Power of The Scap & The Crossover Symmetry Mission w/ Duggan Moran

When is injury prevention and the reinforcement of effective and correct mechanics not at the forefront of subjects that need to be understood to become an elite athlete?

It’s especially relevant with throwing a baseball. An unnatural act that is done over and over again over the course of a baseball season.

Many thanks to Duggan Moran from Crossover Symmetry for stopping by to share his unbelievable expertise and knowledge on the biomechanics of throwing a baseball.

We were able to bring to light a few misconceptions about how and why throwing injuries happen.

Enjoy the interview!

How To Swing The Bat w/ Pure Instinct Like Bo Jackson

There are handful of players that I would give almost anything to see compete on the ball field.

Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ty Cobb, Joe DiMaggio…

…and Bo Jackson.

Has there been anyone who demonstrated more power, explosion and natural athletic ability than Bo Jackson?

I can’t think of one ballplayer. The irony of it all was that his career was cut extremely short by an injury that was a result of his incredible power. A freak accident involving his hip flexor.

Talk about a fallen hero.

With that being said, I was contacted by an Art of Baseball fan ( Jeremy) who wanted to see a “How to hit a baseball” video with Bo Jackson.

This one is for you Jeremy 🙂

Who is one player, dead or alive that you’d love to watch play?

Let me know in the comments section.
