Selective Aggressive Approach Like Adrian Gonzalez.

Adrian Gonzalez Swing Analysis Home Run Drills

I’ve said this before. ” Success leaves clues”.

If we can learn to recognize what those “clues” are, we can begin to emulate the approach to success that successful players demonstrate.

Don’t worry, won’t being saying the word “success” anymore.

So the things about success…oops 😉

Is that it begins with having a plan, strategy and the ability to take daily action. I’ve said this before as well.

What I’d like you guys to begin to recognize when it comes to formulating an approach to hitting this year is understanding the power of ” Selective Aggressiveness”.

The ability to know what pitch you’re looking for and the discipline to ignore any pitches that you’re not.

That’s precisely what I’ll be discussing today in this swing analysis video.

Enjoy!

REMEMBER: If you have a swing you’d like for me to break down, post it in the comment section below.

Andrew McCutchen’s little hitting secret…

In 2004, there were talks of a “phenom”. The word from the “high school baseball grape vine” was that he was hitting .750. He could run a 6.5 60 yard dash and had a BAZOOKA for an arm. Those kinds of rumors are hardly ever reliable.

Most of the time, in Florida, you could shake a tree and ten players with amazing talent would fall out like pieces of fruit. Florida is full of very talented amateur players. But this rumor was spot on. He was great.

His name was Andrew McCutchen. A future ALL-STAR. A future MVP.
His swing.

One of the principles that I STRESS in my private hitting lessons in Long Beach is the IMPORTANCE of simplifying the art of hitting with consistent routines.

Routine gives birth to innovation. Innovation provides insights that help you build skill-sets that make you stand out on the field.Andrew’s swing is SUPER simple.

He swings more like an athlete and less like a hitter but it works sot here is a lot that you can learn from his approach if you know what to look for.

That’s what we’ll be discussing today.

How small players hit for BIG POWER like Jose Altuve!

It’s 2009. I’m training with the Padres, taking ground balls during batting practice. The player I’m training with asks me, ” Hey, have you ever heard of this guy named Jose Altuve?”

Nope, I replied. Doesn’t ring a bell.

“Well he’s supposedly the Astros’ number one prospect, and he’s only about 5″5 a buck 60.”

“Oh yeah? Good for him.” I was thinking to myself. I just wanted to get through this workout in one piece

Little did I know that a few years later, Jose Altuve would be leading the league in hitting while making web gems in the all-star game.

He’s a true athlete and a PERFECT example that you DO NOT have to be BIG to play this game.

For all of you players who have been told, that you need to play small ball since you’re small, watch this video over and over and over again until this idea sinks in…

…being a good ballplayer is about knowing how to play this game the right way.

Not about having a “GOOD baseball body”.

Fewer and fewer scouts are impressed by a projectable body these days as they are by players who have baseball instinct. It will behoove you to embrace this idea whether you’re big or small.

I hope you enjoy this video.

Simplify. Simplify. Simplify…Like Miguel Cabrera!

If I could take a pill and wake-up to having one major leaguer’s hitting ability…it would be Miguel Cabrera’s.

A couple of years ago, he won the Triple Crown.

Hadn’t been done in over 50 years prior.

Simply put. He’s amazing. What’s interesting about his approach to hitting though is that everything is simple.

When he hits the ball, he demonstrates slow feet, quick hands with minimal head movement.

Text book…yet unique to his own physical make-up.

He’s a BIG boy. So he swings to get an extra base hit. Not to simply put the ball in play. He knows his role. He knows what he gets paid for. And he shows up for work doing just that.

What are some things about Miguel Cabrera’s swing that you enjoy watching the most?

What was ONE take away that you received from this “swing analysis break down”?

Let me know in the comment section at this post.
