Kevin Paxson & Bat-Speed w/ The PaxBats!

So I walk into the hitting facility to start my hitting lessons for the day and not an hour goes by before I hear, ” hey what is that? It looks pretty cool”. They’re talking about the PaxBat. I use it for all my lessons.

As you know, I’m a huge advocate of getting your “required reps” in the batting cage. The hitting cage is the hitter’s laboratory, where he can experiment with new things to find what does and does not work. I’m a fan of the PaxBat because it provides immediate feedback. It save you time.  If you’re not crushing the ball, there is probably something wrong with your swing path and or approach to the plate. Easy Peasy.

All this being said, I’m really excited to have the creator of the PaxBats (Kevin Paxson) on the AoB EXPERTS show today to share how he got the idea for the design, how to best utilize it for increased bat-speed and what results to expect if you stick with it for a committed period of time. It’s not a magic pill…but it will be a welcomed tool in your tool-box if you allow it to be.

Many thanks to Kevin Paxson for sharing his time! He’s a high-school coach and has a family so much obliged Kevin. You’re the man.

The Inside Fast-Ball

The inside fast-ball is a challenge for most players. The main reason is because most hitters haven’t fully grasped correct point of contact concepts. They haven’t become familiar with where they should hit the ball in relation to the location of the pitch and the plate.

Here is a 30 second baseball concept that you can experiment with in your next batting practice session while working on hitting the inside fast-ball more consistently.

“Use your instincts to hit inside the ball”

Your hands are much faster than you think. Master the art of “ATTACKING THE GOLDEN NUGGET”. Place a ball on a Tee with the ball set-up to show three sections.

The inner side of the baseball – Green

The middle – Yellow

The outer half – Red

Attack the GREEN and Avoid the RED.

Attacking the inner half of the baseball is probably the quickest and most simple adjustment that a hitter could make if his problem is rolling over and hitting weak ground balls or is getting jammed on pitches middle in that he should be driving to the gap.

Try this simple mental concept in your next batting practice session and let me know how it goes.

Let me know!

What hitting drills have you been working on lately? I’d love to hear from you.

How To Swing a Baseball Bat For Power Like Joey Votto

How To Swing a Baseball Bat For Power Like Joey Votto

Wanna learn How To Swing a Baseball Bat For Power Like Joey Votto ?

Well you’re in for a treat…

One of the biggest problems I had in my late teens as a ballplayer was trying to do too much at the plate.

I was trying to get my foot down in time, keep my head still, think positive thoughts, stay short to the ball and have a level swing all at the same time.

These were all things that I should be aware of when the time is right, but trying to do them all within one at-bat is insanity.

As hitters we have to be willing to focus on the ONE thing that if did successfully would make all the other things trivial.

The one element in our swing, approach and training that will provide us with most of the offensive results that we desire.

A great place to start is by trusting your abilities and pursuing a more “quite approach”.

In this AoB swing analysis video, I’ll share with you a few aspects of Joe Votto’s swing that really impresses me.

Joey is a bigger guy but swings like a hybrid of a line-drive hitter and a power guy.

He’s a great hitter to learn from especially for you lefty hitters!

I hope you enjoy this video!

Who’s should we do next?

Let me know who’s swing you’d like to see in the next swing analysis video and I’ll be sure to put it in the que.

Cheers guys!

Increasing Bat-Speed While Hitting The Curve-Ball Like Bryce Harper

ncreasing bat speed while hitting the curve ball

Here is the truth. I’ll venture to say that 90% of breaking balls that you guys strike-out on are pitches in the dirt.

RIGHT?

Why is that?

Because you haven’t established the discipline of “posting up”. That’s why.

You have to force the pitcher to leave the breaking ball up in the zone.

Period.

If you can do that, you’ll have a chance to be known as a great breaking ball hitter.

In this video I’ll be breaking down Bryce Harper’s swing on  a curve-ball that was left ” up enough” in the zone for him to tattoo it over the center field fence.

You gotta watch this swing!

Enjoy!

Who’s your favorite hitter?

Let me know who your favorite hitter is in the comment section below and I’ll make sure to use him(or her) in one of our AoB swing analysis videos.

Thanks a bunch.
