One of the things I try to stress to my young hitters is understanding how to use your entire body in your swing.
I quite often see hitters take for granted how much more than actually have in their “Bat Speed” tank if you will.
I believe without a doubt that they can hit the ball a lot harder and farther than they give themselves credit for.
Now, obviously the only way a hitter is able to truly maximize his ability to generate torque in his swing is through proper strength training, correct repetitions and a basic understanding of the biomechanics of a swing but it will behoove the hitter not to take what he’s already capable of doing for granted.
Woooh. Long sentence, I know!
My mentor once told me that hitting is a “Controlled / Violent act”. Which is why encourage my hitters that I train privately to swing as hard as they can, under control.
Who’s a good example that demonstrates this? You guessed it. Bryce Harper.
This is the 3rd time I’ve done a Bryce Harper swing analysis as part of the AoB Swing Analysis Series and theres a reason why. He’s the real deal.
Look at his approach and see what you can learn from his swing, point of contact stance and overall balance after point of contact. There’s a hidden message here and if you can learn to recognize it, it will be just another advantage for you during your progress as a ballplayer!
Good luck!
