Contentment – The quality of feeling satisfied with one’s possessions, status, or situation.

There is a good side and a bad side to being a content baseball player.

On one side contentment can reveal to you how fortunate it is to play this game. There are so many people who simply don’t have the physical or mental ability to compete in between the lines. Putting on a jersey truly is a gift. For me it was one of life’s greatest gifts. Being content will allow you to enjoy the game and become grounded in it’s reality.

Something you’ll need if you’re trying to take your game to the next level, get out of hitting slumps or keep a hitting streak going. It gives you balance.

On the other hand being content is a few doors down from the house of complacency. This can be death for a baseball player. If you ever think you’re “good enough” you may not be. A true baseball player is never satisfied. He is willing to ALWAYS go the extra mile no matter what the risks. He’s always fixated on the rewards.

You’ll need this when you’re trying to become a legitimate 5 tool player, combine bat speed with foot speed, and an incredible baseball I.Q.

In my mind, a player is on the right track when he’s open to the incredible possibilities that this games has to offer, has the awareness and wisdom to take a second to take it all in, smell the freshly cut grass, feel the bat in his hands, and become one with the ball and once the time comes, is able to play, train and practice baseball with a reckless abandon.

It’s a balance and an art to be a hungry baseball player while understanding the gift of simply playing.

What kind of baseball player are you?

Excellent article. It’s not just playing, but playing with all your heart that wins games, and keeps the excitement of baseball alive.
